Airport: Changi Terminal 3, Singapore

SINGAPORE, CHANGI AIRPORT TERMINAL 3

Boasting a cinema, a children's playground and an enormous slide that spans four floors, it is undoubtedly one of the worlds most interesting airport terminals, both for the young and the old.

Following a renovation spearheaded by CPG Corporation and Skidmore, Owings & Merill architecture firms, Changi won a place among the best design airports in 2008.

Its design was based on a "see-through" layout concept, which makes it easier for travellers to orientate themselves with minimal guidance and establishes a direct visual contact with Singapore's natural light.

This is achieved with a one-off roof design, comprising 919 skylights with specially designed reflector panels that automatically adjust themselves to allow an optimal amount of soft, uniform daylight into the terminal building, while also  protecting it from being overheated.

The terminal highlight is none other that its Green Wall: a five-storey vertical garden that spans 300 metres across the main building and is covered with climbing plants interspersed with four cascading waterfalls.
